Vinod Gupta, Private Citizen
Spotted moving through the exhibit hall at DMA 08 Monday morning: Vinod Gupta, the founder of infoGroup, nee infoUSA. Gupta, as watchers of the compiled industry may recall, stepped down from the company’s chairman position in July and relinquished his CEO title in August.
Gupta wore a blue blazer, an open red, white and blue plaid shirt and relaxed air. How is he spending his days? He demurred from answering, saying only that he was a private citizen.
Perhaps, but what about his professional life? This was, after all, the man who according to industry lore started infoUSA in 1972 with an initial $100 investment. Any new entrepreneurial ideas up his sleeve?
“I’m just watching my investment,” Gupta said, before politely but pointedly ending the conversation. Gupta still owns 40% of infoGroup’s outstanding stock

I am sorry I missed Vin….too much going on at my TTMS booth (good news)….I recall that most of my time spent with Vin was as private citizens in social atmosphers in Omaha ( just a jersey farm boy out there on buisness)….not once did he ever ask for an order or offer me a loan….
