So When Has Drinkability Become Such a Hot Topic?
Welcome to the third and final presidential debate between Republican candidate John McCain and Democratic candidate Barack Obama… brought to you by Anhueser-Busch.
Yep, the beer baron has been a corporate sponsor of the Commission on Presidential Debates since 1992. The New York Times got a hold of an invitation to a hospitality tent it sponsors for the media at the debates, too. This one if for tonight’s debate at Hofstra University:
“We hope our hospitality area will provide a welcome opportunity to relax with some great food and ice-cold beverages,” said an Anheuser-Busch invitation to the tent. “If you’re looking for a little entertainment, you’ll be able to watch some of our latest television spots and enter a drawing for a chance to win a Budweiser fire pit, perfect for outdoor gatherings this fall.”
I’m sure Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric could have used a drink after tensions rose at the second debate. Who knows about tonight? Maybe we’ll find out if Bud Light really does have more Drinkability than other light beers. And I’ll vote for the candidate who can answer that question with a straight face.
Now Anhueser-Busch should have put up more money and brought its brand into the actual debate. Picture if you will some of these past Budweiser spokes-characters taking on the role of moderator:
The Wazzup! guys:
The Budweiser Frogs:
Late legendary sportscaster Harry Caray (of course Will Ferrell would have to play him):
Spuds McKenzie:

Or maybe this dog (or the squirrel):
I’m kidding about all this, of course. There’s no time for silliness with the presidential election. And as long as Bud doesn’t start putting presidential candidates on its labels or bring out one of its characters as the “Keg Party” candidate (or openly endorse a candidate), then I’m fine with Anhueser-Busch’s sponsorship.

Interesting that you didn’t mention Cindy McCain’s connection with Anheuser-Busch.
I’m sure you know that she is chair of Hensley & Co., one of the largest Anheuser-Busch beer distributors in the United States.
Is this a conflict of interest? Nah …
