Obama and Privacy

Assorted privacy experts are forming a group “to help shape standards around how companies collect, store and use consumer data for business and advertising,” the Washington Post reports.


The so-called Future of Privacy Forum will be headed by Jules Polentsky, formerly in charge of AOL’s privacy policy, and lawyer Chris Wolf, the Post reports. The sponsor is AT&T.


Just what we need—another group to add its voice to the cacophony. Who appointed these guys? Hasn’t Polentsky’s old firm, AOL, created more than its share of turmoil in this area? more

Olympic Gold Missing For Advertisers

Wow, talk about an ROI letdown. The advertisers who laid out big bucks during the recent Beijing Olympics in hopes of gaining market share there and abroad are disappointed and their advertising agencies seem to be scratching their heads. While the intent was to resonate with China, it seems like the mark was widely missed.

UPS Either Can’t, or Won’t, Crystal Ball Holiday Volume

Sometimes when things get so bad, you don’t even want to talk about them.


Last week I registered myself for a news conference sponsored by UPS in which the carrier was supposed to give an update on the level of volume it expects to see this holiday season.
