You Go, Fangirls!
It only took me four+ decades to do so, but apparently I’m finally hot. Or, at least my demographic is: fangirls.
CNN’s Screening Room reports that thanks to the popularity of series like “Twilight,” fangirls are now being courted by the entertainment biz just as heavily as their male counterparts who flock to flicks like “Spider-Man” and “The Lord of the Rings.”
Of course, being an older fangirl (Fanwoman? Fanmom? Fandame?), my tastes tend to run more towards the classics, so I was with the guys who lined up for Spidey and Frodo, rather than….um, sorry, can’t even name a character from “Twilight.”
So far I haven’t gotten caught up in this new vampire phenom—I’m still a Buffy/Angel girl myself. Still, you have to admire any new marketing/literary juggernaut that gets so many young people into movie seats—and reading.
What do you think?
