Take Out the TV Trash

I’m talking about all the stuff cluttering our television screens. It started, of course, with the ubiquitous crawls running along the bottom of news programs. During a time of crisis, these can provide essential information. But on a typical day? Not so much. Angelina Jolie is adopting a kitten? Wow! Thanks for sharing! That’s much more important than anything happening in Washington!

Ad Video Formats Put To The Test Online

On-line video advertising is hot, and as such, competitors like Microsoft, Yahoo, and CBS are banding together to see which formats work best. In advertising it’s about following the money. As folks migrate from TV and newspapers to the web, it’s in the best interest of media companies to determine — post haste — what format are working. “Among the ad formats being tested are videos that contain elements that, when clicked on, display more information in a separate pane or open a new browser window and videos that allow viewers to pick the ad that they wish to watch.” Google is not participating in the testing.
