Blogging on Blogs
So, I figured it was time to blog about blogs. You know, those (these?) popular posts that existed pre-Twitter. I’m curious and you can help me by sharing your opinions. A few questions:
* Are blogs passe?
* Are they effective in your opinion? (Why and why not?)
* What’s the future of blogs?
* What’s your favorite blog topics (besides measurable marketing! :))
* What makes a great blog and how can I, and my fellow bloggers at the BFMB, do a better job?
I do have a strong set of opinions, but I’d really like to know what you think. It’s funny how “social media” seems to make us, well, LESS social. Who returns phone calls today? Most business communication is done via email and webcasts/webinars, video conferencing and conference calls. Friends don’t talk, they text, Tweet, Facebook and email bad jokes to each other.

I think blogs are still highly relevent. However you need a good marketing strategy to succeed. I am constantly promoting my blog via other social media and driving new and repeat traffic.
On the content side, it’s “give to get” all the way. I try to keep my content extremely interesting to my market (people in direct marketing, or interested in learning direct marketing).
Seems everyone is blogging these days. Both marketing and content will seperate you from the pack. Hope this helps

With apologies to Marshall McLuhan, I think the tweet and the email prove that the medium ain’t necessarily the message. Our culture’s preference for brief, quick comment hasn’t eliminated the need for blog-style content, simply because some topics demand a level of development that three sentences can’t deliver.
That said, we will probably be bidding farewell to the blog that speaks merely for the sake of talking (or for SEO). Long live the essay that advances the topic and opens new channels of thought!
