A Look Back at IKEA
The new IKEA catalog arrived yesterday. That meant I had to drop everything and pore over it.
I envision cheap renovations that probably will never get done, and plan purchases that will probably be put off. I will get around to some home decor and improvement projects some day, but when the catalog comes it’s just fun to look. And yes, as widely publicized this month, the prices are lower.
So it was kind of funny that one of my Facebook friends this morning posted a link to the Apartment Therapy Website, which had some photos of a 1965 IKEA catalog. (The catalog is even in Swedish—I think—so it’s the real IKEA deal.)
You have to click to another blog to see more photos. (Apparently the blogger’s mother has saved her IKEA catalog from every year.)
As you might expect from 1965, some of the color combinations are beyond garish and the rugs are way shaggy. But it’s kind of amazing how well many of the company’s furniture lines and designs have held up over the years.
I’m not so sure that the actual furniture has held up as well, though.
