Please, Democratic Party, Let Me Unsubscribe

A few years back, maybe even during the 2004 Presidential Election season, I opted in to receive e-mail messages from the Democratic Party. Now that I’m trying to opt out, the Democratic Party doesn’t want me to.

The latest e-mail I received from the party seemed like it was going to make it easy to unsubscribe if I just clicked a link.

Once at the unsubscribe screen, I had to give them my e-mail address. Okay, most of the time when I unsubscribe, that info is already a part of the URL. But I was fine entering it.

Then I got this message:

To ensure the security of your account, we’ve sent you an email at the address you provided us. This email contains a 4-digit code that you will need to enter below. If you do not see the inbox within a couple of minutes, check your junk or bulk mail folder as your ISP may have incorrectly marked this message as spam.

I’m waiting for the e-mail. It’s only been about two hours since I tried to unsubscribe. Maybe they’re hoping I’ll change my mind. Maybe the Democratic Party thinks I’ll defect. And maybe this confirmation code will never come, and I’m going to have to keep trying to unsubscribe to each and every sent message.

Oh well, as long as FOX News doesn’t try to book me on Glenn Beck or Bill O’Reilly for a “Liberals who Hate Liberals” segment, I guess I’m going to have to deal.

  1. By the way, I got another message from the Democratic Party today, tried to opt-out, and still didn’t receive a 4-digit code. It would be interesting to see if the Democratic Party ever tries to create “do-not-e-mail” legislation.
